It is a funny thing when you get injured. You have all the time in the world to reflect on life… and you also remember that you haven’t blogged in almost a year…

It all happened on April 12th- I entered work and clocked in. Then a certain thing called a rug decided to step on me and not let go of my foot the whole 5 foot and 6 inch descent to the floor. Only part damaged was my knee- actually, I found out that I damaged both knees in the fall, no biggie because at least it wasn’t my face (!!).

It was on tape on the security camera though.. maybe I should ask for a copy.

Updates to come soon… I hope.

Why I work at UO:

Reason 1: Kind of sappy, but, I’ve wanted to work here since high school (when i fell in love with fashion) and I finally got a job here a year and a half ago.
Reason 2: The people who work here and the people who shop here. You meet everyone from every walk of life.
Reason 3: My wardrobe is now FAB.
Reason 4: The most obvious: infinite coolness.

What I want to do at Urban Outfitters

I would like to be at Urban Outfitters long term. I recently switched to overnights for the WACC team to train for merchandising. Before this, the managers implemented a departmental shift system in order to familiarize all associates with the products in the store. I think this was a great idea. I found myself knowing more about the products in the store and where they were. It also familiarizes you with what is selling and what isn’t. That being said, I would like to be considered for a corporate position in buying. A lot of our merchandise does sell through but, there are also some items that just don’t, because I dont think they are really geared towards our target customer. As stated earlier, I recently got my Fashion Merchandising and Management degree from FIT- funny enough, they gave us a more in depth education for buying.

Also, if it is anyway doable, and I know it is definitely something to be earned, I would like to possibly be considered for a position in the UK home office somewhere down the line. I love European style and would really love the opportunity to gain experience in the market there.

What does being a Team Lead mean?

Being a team lead means, in the most obvious sense, that you are leading a team. From the day that we start as sales associates here at UO we have learned standards, rules, time management, important company vocabulary, and most importantly customer service. As team lead it is our responsibility to teach and train associates to comply with company standards.

I think the most important thing to remember is: You are still part of the team. Even if you are a team lead you still need to be a team player. Shared fate is probably the most important thing to remember. It really builds team morale and leads to better results- especially during closing time.
